My first day of Photo in my junior year of high school, Mr. Kendall told me that in order to get a great shot, I can’t rely on the zoom of my camera. That if I want whoever’s looking at the photo to feel like they were there, I had to be the zoom function on my camera lens. I would have to get out of my comfort zone and get in the action.
On a walk to the New Smyrna Beach jetty with my mom and brother, some fishermen had just thrown a cast net and brought in some bait fish. They were trying to get the little flopping fish out of the net and into their bait bucket. A flock of birds noticed and descended on the fishermen and their bait fish in hopes of a quick and easy meal. My wide angle lens helped me get a lot into the frame, but that meant I had to get close to the action. What you’re not seeing are even more birds hovering over my head.
A bird dropped one right next to me. It was worth almost getting pooped on.
